About Rumtse Tsomriri Trek

The Changthang plateau, part of the Tibetan plateau, is a high-altitude, semi-nomadic region in Ladakh, India, and northern Tibet. This unique landscape is characterized by its nomadic culture, majestic snow-capped mountains, and rich biodiversity.
 
The Rumtse to Tso Moriri trek is a popular route in eastern Ladakh, starting from Rumtse (4,030 meters) and concluding at Tso Moriri (4,700 meters). The trek involves crossing seven passes, with most altitudes ranging from 4,900 to 5,400 meters. Each pass offers breathtaking views of the magnificent landscape.
 
To ensure a safe trek, it’s essential to acclimatize properly in Leh for 2-3 days.
 
On the trek, you may spot wild animals such as blue sheep, kyang, Tibetan wolves, Tibetan argali, marmots, and Tibetan sand foxes. The trek aculminates with stunning views of Mount Mentok Kangri (6,150 meters) and the beautiful Tso Moriri lake.

DETAILS

Day 1 Arrival in Leh

In the morning, fly from Delhi to Leh. On arrival at Ladakh, meet our representative. Check-in to the pre-booked hotel. Take rest and be acclimatized. Visit the local market of Leh in the evening. Overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 2 Leh Local

Today, we shall go on a sightseeing tour to some important monasteries in the area. We will be visiting Shey Gompa, which was once the summer capital of Ladakh kings; Thiksey Gompa, which is said to be one of the most beautiful structures in Ladakh and the famed Hemis Monastery belonging to Drukpa Order. Overnight stay at the guest house.

Day 3 Rumtse – Kyamar (4498m) 4hr to 5hr

After having breakfast to drive to Rumste which is about 2 hours drive. On same day we continue our trekking to Kyamar, follow the trail to Kyamar which was once known as the salt road. Through this valley, the salt from Tsokar was transported to Leh and the Indus valley. the sceneries and landscapes are different from the rest of Ladakh. Overnight stay at camp
 
Day 4 Kyamar – Kyamar La (5050m)-Mandalchan La(5200m)-Tesaling (4900m) 6-7hrs
 
Elevation gain +786m / elevation loss -384m
move upwards gradually towards the Kyamar La and enjoy the fantastic view of the Changthang region from the pass. climb down towards Tiri Doksa, a temporary shelter for the shepherds ,keep to the trail and climb the Mandalchan La and then climb down to Tesaling . Overnight stay at camp
 
Day 5 Teysaling-Shibuk La(5280m)-Ponganagu (4645m) 6hrs
 
Follow the trail as it slowly begins to gain elevation towards the Shibuk La. Enjoy the spectacular view of Tsokar lake from the pass. Walk down to Ponganagu near Tsokar lake. This area is well known to observe wildlife such as migratory birds, kyang (wild asses), marmots and ibex. Overnight stay at camp.
 
Day 6 Ponganagu-Nuruchan (4670m) 5-6hrs
 
Continue your trek walking along the west side of Tsokar lake where you might be able to spot black necked cranes and brahmini ducks. Tsokar is also called “white lake” because of the salt that get deposited on its banks. trek to Nuruchan. Overnight stay at camp.
 
Day 7 Nuruchan to Rajung Karu 3hr Altitude 4800m
 
In Rajung Karu you can see the nomadic people and nomads tent we can also go there to interact with the people.. overnight at camp.
 
Day 8 Rajung Karu to Gyama barma 6hr to 7hr altitude 4880mtr
 
We crossing 2 pass first one is Kyamayuri La (5,300mtr),and 2nd one is Gyama Burma La (5,210m) from the Gyama barma la we are going to decent to our camp.. overnight stay at camp.
 
Day 9 Gyama barma to kaorzok phoo 6hr to 7hr. Altitude 4500m
 
We cross over the final pass of the trip the Yalegon La (5,241m). Just as we begin the descent, the Tso-moriri lake comes into sight and its a brilliant sight, barren mountains, snow-clad peaks and the lake, all in a single frame. Its a long and hard two hour descent, as we descend about 800 metres all the way to our campsite at Karzok Phu. overnight stay at camp kaorzok phoo or korzok village 
 
Day 10 Back to leh
