About Phyang Hunder Trek

The Phyang to Hunder Trek is one of the most spectacular trekking routes in Ladakh, connecting the Indus Valley to the Nubra Valley over the high Lasermo La Pass (5,400m). This trek offers breathtaking landscapes, remote villages, ancient monasteries, and unforgettable views of the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges.

Starting from the historic Phyang Monastery near Leh, the trail crosses beautiful meadows, wild valleys, and glaciers before descending into the Nubra Valley, famous for its sand dunes, Bactrian camels, and warm hospitality of the local people.

DETAILS

Day 1 Leh to Phyang – Trek to Murobok Camp (4043m)
After a short drive of 19km (about 30 minutes) from Leh, you will reach Phyang village where you can visit the ancient Phyang Monastery. From here, you begin a gentle hike of around 6.7 km that takes about 3 hours to reach the campsite in Murobok Valley. Overnight stay at camp
 
Day 2 Phyang Camp – South Basecamp of Lasermo La (4894m)
Today’s trek covers approximately 7.9km and takes 5 to 6 hours as you gradually ascend through meadows and valleys surrounded by snow-capped peaks. You will set up camp at the south base of Lasermo La.
 
Day 3 Cross Lasermo La (5400m) – North Basecamp (4850m)
This is the most challenging day of the trek as you cross Lasermo La Pass at 5,400m. The 10 km journey takes around 7 to 8 hours, offering breathtaking views of the Karakoram and Ladakh ranges. After crossing, you descend to the north base camp where you will spend the night.
 
Day 4 Trek to Hunder Dok Village (4267m)
The trail today descends gradually for 15km through green pastures and streams, taking about 5 to 6 hours. You arrive at Hunder Dok, where you can stay in tent at Campsite of Hunder Dok.
 
Day 5 Trek to Wachen Campsite (3380m) and Drive to Hunder Village
The trek continues for 5.5 km towards Wachen Campsite and takes around 1 hours in Car which is 17km as you descend further into Nubra Valley. You arrive at Hunder Village, known for its sand dunes and double-humped Bactrian camels. Overnight stay in camp or guesthouse.
 
Day 6 Drive back to Leh via Khardung La Pass
In the morning, you can visit Diskit Monastery and the famous sand dunes of Nubra Valley. Later, a private vehicle with an experienced driver will take you back to Leh via Khardung La (5,359m), one of the world’s highest motorable passes. The drive covers 125 km and takes about 5 to 6 hours.
