Mount Nun Expedition is the tallest mountain in the Zanskar range, standing at 7,135 meters. It is located in the Suru Valley of Ladakh. Climbing Mount Nun is tough but exciting for those who love adventure and high-altitude challenges. Optional Expedition: UT Kangri

Before climbing Mount Nun, you can choose to do the UT Kangri Expedition as a warm-up. UT Kangri 6070m helps you get used to the altitude and practice climbing skills. This smaller climb builds confidence and strength for the main Mount Nun adventure.

Difficulties of the Peak

Climbing Mount Nun is hard. You will have to cross glaciers, climb steep ice walls, and deal with harsh weather. Strong winds and very cold temperatures are common. You need to know how to use ropes and climb ice. Having experience in high-altitude trekking is important. Good physical fitness and mental strength are key to completing this climb.

DETAILS

Day 1: Arrival in Leh (3,500 m)
Arrive in Leh and meet your expedition team. Spend the day resting to recover from travel fatigue and the sudden altitude. Gentle evening walks (2–3 km) are optional to help your body adjust. Overnight in a hotel.

Day 2: Acclimatization in Leh (3,500 m)
Enjoy a short 3–4 km acclimatization walk around Leh, visiting Shanti Stupa or a local monastery. In the evening, your guide briefs you on the expedition and checks your equipment.

Day 3: Drive from Leh to Kargil (2,676 m – 220 km)
A scenic 6–7-hour drive through Fotu La and Namika La passes brings you to Kargil. Enjoy views of the rugged Zanskar Range. Overnight stay in Kargil.

Day 4: Drive from Kargil to Tangol (3,700 m – 60 km)
Drive along the Suru Valley to Tangol, the trek’s starting point. Participate in a traditional puja ceremony for blessings and spend the evening preparing for the climb.

Day 5: Rest and Preparation at Tangol (3,700 m)
Spend the day organizing climbing loads, reviewing gear, and taking a short 2–3 km acclimatization walk around the village. Overnight in camp.

Day 6: Trek to Base Camp (4,600 m – 8 km/5–6 hrs)
Trek gradually upward through meadows and glacial moraine to reach Base Camp. Set up tents, enjoy the mountain views, and rest.

Day 7: Rest & Training at Base Camp (4,600 m)
Rest at Base Camp and join training sessions on climbing techniques, rope handling, and glacier travel safety. Short walks help with acclimatization.

Day 8: Load Ferry to Camp 1 (5,400 m – 4 km up/down)
Carry part of your expedition load to Camp 1 and return to Base Camp, using the climb-high, sleep-low strategy to acclimatize effectively.

Day 9: Rest at Base Camp (4,600 m)
Spend the day resting, hydrating, and reviewing climbing plans. Check weather conditions for the upcoming ascent.

Day 10: Move to Camp 1 (5,400 m – 4 km)
Ascend to Camp 1, passing through snow slopes and rocky terrain. Spend the night adapting to higher altitude.

Day 11: Rotation to Camp 2 (5,600 m) and Return to Camp 1
Carry supplies to Camp 2 (3 km ascent) and descend to Camp 1 for the night. This enhances acclimatization while keeping energy reserves high.

Day 12: Move to Camp 2 (5,600 m – 3 km)
Climb gradually to Camp 2, crossing mixed snow and ice sections. Establish camp and rest early.

Day 13: Climb to Camp 3 (6,400 m – 3 km)
A challenging ascent over steep snow and ice terrain leads you to Camp 3, the final camp before your summit push.

Day 14: Rest & Acclimatization at Camp 3 (6,400 m)
Spend the day recovering, hydrating, and organizing summit gear. Prepare mentally and physically for the early-morning climb.

Day 15: Summit Day (7,135 m – 10–12 hrs climb)
Start before dawn for the summit push. Climb steep snow slopes to reach Mt. Nun’s 7,135 m summit. After breathtaking views, descend safely to Camp 3.

Day 16: Descend to Camp 1 or Base Camp
Pack up Camp 3 and begin the long descent toward Camp 1 or Base Camp, depending on team pace and weather.

Day 17: Return to Base Camp (4,600 m)
Regroup at Base Camp, celebrate the successful climb, and relax after the demanding ascent.

Day 18: Trek Back to Tangol (8 km) and Drive to Kargil
Trek back through familiar terrain to Tangol, then drive to Kargil for the night.

Day 19: Drive from Kargil to Leh (220 km)
Drive back to Leh. Enjoy a comfortable hotel stay, warm meals, and exploration of the town.

Day 20: Reserve Day
Buffer day for weather delays or rest before departure.

Day 21: Departure
Transfer to Leh airport and fly home with memories of your successful Mt. Nun climb.
